Are you selling museum items?
Yes and no. The HomeComputerMuseum is a non-profit foundation (comparable to a U.S. 501(c)(3)) dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of the home computer and its related culture and technology. This history is shared with the public through an interactive museum exhibition. For collection management purposes, the museum retains up to three examples of each computer type: one on public display (active), one stored as a reference unit (passive), and one preserved in original packaging where available. Additional donated items are carefully evaluated. If an item does not improve the existing collection, it may be used for spare parts, donated or exchanged with other museums, or, in limited cases, offered for sale. Only these surplus items are listed on this website.
But you are non-profit, you should give it for free.
Non-profit doesn't mean we don't have costs. Running a museum costs a lot of money (renting a place, electricity, employees, insurance, coffee). We don't receive much subsidy and on entrance fee alone we cannot survive. Therefor, if we decide to sell things, this money will be used to maintain the museum. Nobody's getting rich from the museum or will benefit personally from any of these sales.
My item is broken!
There's no guarantee at all. The state is the last state we've registered in our system. It could've been changed. We cannot guarantee anything, nor can we take back. These are old computers and something can go wrong, unfortunately.
Why not eBay / Marktplaats ?
Multiple reasons. eBay has, like many other auction sites, a fee. Because we do it ourselves, at least you know you are fully supporting the museum. Second reason is that we are truly a museum. Which means we're also searching on sites for part/computers. As a true museum we like to prevent to pay full price. If you see the same account selling off computers, you could possibly think we're only pretending to be a museum (like many are) while we're making profit. Trust us, we are not!

Bugs / Problems / Ugly website
Well, we couldn't find any open source auction software that actually worked and we didn't want to pay up to a few thousand euro to whitelabel something. Therefor, we decided to dust of this 10-year old, unsupported, software which we found. We made some adaptations to it to make it slightly better. That's what this is. It's been created in roughly 1 day. We don't have time or the resources to make a fancy website for this and we are aware this website is very buggy. If you think you can do better and are willing to help the museum, feel free to contact us and help improve this software. It's written in PHP.
